Clairikine + HX hit ComicInvasion 2022

A black-and-white comic titled "Clairikine + HX do Comic Invasion 2022". In the first panel, Claire is sitting at their table at Comicinvasion wearing a jeans jacket and a shirt that says "Thrice". Someone next to them says "Hi! I'm Claire" and Claire responds "Me too!" In the second panel, Claire and HX are sitting next to each other at their tables. Claire is standing next to two people, one of which is wearing a shirt with the words "Carry On" against a ring of fire and above a Chevy Impala. Claire is clasping her hands and saying "OMG your shirt!!", with a caption pointing at her saying "on season 14". The fifth panel has the caption "5:30 vibes" and the text "the lights are on, but nobody's home". It shows Claire sitting at their table with eyes of two different sizes, staring into the void. The sixth panel shows Lara (wearing a "Yay Comics!" shirt), HX and Claire sitting around a table with drinks. HX says "We're doing a bit where we see who the first person to draw it is... it's Claire". Claire is looking at a blank sketchbook page with a pen in her hand. The seventh panel shows Claire drawing into the sketchbook while frowning and saying "This right here is why I never finish any of my long-form projects." Lara asks "The spontaneous stuff?" and Claire says "This spontaneous shit."

ComicInvasion 2023 is nigh, so here are some comics chronicling my weekend at CIB22 in the presence of HX and friends! That's kickass festival director Lara demonstrating leadership in action in the final panels.

An Intro to Berlin Bike Path Typology (Berliner Comic Fenster 2022)

Third panel: a six-lane street downtown with cars and a bus, but no bike path or cyclists. The caption says "404 bike path not found".

Fourth panel: a bike path at night with a tree next to it and bumps in the path created by the tree's roots, with the caption "Oh no. Oh no no no no no". Fifth panel: a bike path with a bus stop next to it, and the caption "Just gonna put a bus stop here". Sixth panel: Claire biking down a bike path full of ice and sludge and swearing, with the caption "Snow sludge ice nightmare". Seventh panel: a smooth and wide bike path at night, with a tree on one side and buildings in the distance, and the caption "Bliss".

I submitted this comic for this year's season of the Berliner Comic Fenster program, through which local cartoonists get to have their comics aired on Berlin's subway TV in partnership with Comic Invasion! If you were on the U-Bahn last weekend, you may have seen it aired.

How Autobio Cartoonists Socialize

A four-panel black and white comic. In the first panel, HX and Claire are hanging out outside at night drinking a 0% beer and a glass of Rotkäppchen, respectively. Claire says "The last hangover I had was after I drank 33cl of this." HX says "Haha, Rotkäppchen is the mind-killer." In the second panel, Claire responds with "Rotkäppchen is the little-death" and HX laughs. Claire continues: "Rotkäppchen will pass through me, and I will remain." HX laughs some more. In the third panel, HX says "That's going in a comic." Claire points at them and says "DO it. And if you don't do it in a month, I'll do it." In the fourth panel, Claire says "And if you DO do it, I'll make a comic about THIS exchange" and HX laughs some more. A caption at the bottom says "How autobio cartoonists socialize."

BETON #10

I contributed this comic to BETO N's 10th issue on the theme of Work! You can pick up the new issue at BETON's stand at Comic Invasion Berlin, Berlin's local comics festival, which is taking place this weekend at Urban Spree.

And speaking of Comic Invasion Berlin, as every year, I will be there!! Once again I shall be located next to my too-talented-for-words table buddy Ash Pure, and I am working on having at least one brand-new collection of Clairikine comics, a thing which I have not put out since 2015!

Frühling

It's finally here! I will be tabling at Comic Invasion Berlin this weekend -- go through the left entrance, turn left and walk a few feet, and you will find my table (right next to Ash Pure's, as tradition has it)! I will have zines - including Master of Survival #3 and Clairikine - Round 2 - plus "Glücklich in Berlin" stickers, postcards and original comic pages!

Also, there is a special secret menu this year!

Bring me a copy of BETON #3, #5 or #6 to sign, and I will rap something for you! (There will be a BETON table outside - even if it rains).
Guess who my favorite character is in House of Cards, and you will get a free postcard! (Only valid if you guess at the convention).
I will draw something in your sketchbook for a donation!

Tabling at cons is extremely rewarding and one of my favorite parts of this gig - but it can be rough on your system! Monitoring your needs for nourishment is key.

That issue of Rolling Stone was from 1991. It had Achtung Baby-era U2 on the cover and a review of Nevermind that suggested Nirvana might be going places. So it was basically amazing.

Berlin!! Comic Invasion Berlin is two weekends away, and I will be tabling there both days next to friend and fellow Panel Upper Ash Pure (of The Lion & The Unicorn fame). Read below the cut to see where you can find me!

Production of Master of Survival: The Third Degree has been delayed a bit due to my having written a 7-page epilogue to wrap the story up; that comic still needs to be inked and edited, which will not happen in time for Comic Invasion, as I'm prioritizing putting out a comic I'm satisfied with over rushing the job (a luxury I can afford on a personal project).

BUT. I will have many other printed minicomics available, as well as postcards and a couple CIB-exclusive deals. Keep a lookout on Twitter next week for those. And hey - come say hi!

Comic Invasion Berlin!

I'm tabling at Comic Invasion Berlin next weekend, y'all! It will be my first actual comic arts festival and I am totally excited. Come see me at table 25a from 12:00 until the hour I keel over! I will have my minis, stickers, some original art and will be doing sketches too.
