Bologna (a breakup song)

This is the wrong story
This is the wrong story, we are
not here to make this happen
We are not made for

Making it stay so long that you can hear the false tones
and the way the shapes are bent out of place
These places have the wrong kind of space

                 Well I'm not here to
I'm not here to make this fit into place
                 No I'm not here to
I'm not here to pass the torch from your embrace
I'm not here to take a bow to your faith
I'm not here to make this fit into place

        I've said
        A simple apology would suffice
        Get out of bed
Take the gun to your head
Tell yourself it'll be all right

**
People. / Beer [extremely loud music]. / Berliner pride. "Moabit is best!"
Lawn. / Music [drum solo with no sounds]. "Yawn" /
'Mericans. "Frickin' A, there's nothing but Americans out here!"  "She says with her American accent."

"Moabit ist beste" is a pretty untranslatable slogan in broken German that refers to a neighborhood in northwest Berlin. Stakeout were actually a really good, engaging punk band; all I'm doing is adding to their own brand of slightly obnoxious self-deprecation. And finally, all Berlin snobbery aside, I'm still the most American person in that picture; I just like to pretend otherwise, especially when confronted with tourists.

The chemical Portapotties at the May 1st festivities on Mariannenplatz...
Whatever you do, don't look down.

Landwehrkanal

I can't imagine how dead you are
sends shivers down my spine
I sat across the bridge from where
they fished you out
last week.

April 29, 2011

I went to Hamburg for two days over Easter and I dug it something fierce.

This weekend was Easter, so I drew these two pictures: they represent the feeling I always have on Good Friday. I don't have fond memories of this holiday, and I explained it a little in this here blog post.

Wer nimmt den Müll raus?

In the flatshare kitchen...
- So, whose turn is it to take out the trash?
- I say Benne!
- Me too.
- Me too.
- Well, let's put it to a vote then. Who's for it?
- ...
- Benne, you lost the vote.
- I'm unanimously against it.

My housemate's birthday was this January, so I drew her this strip after she requested a depiction of our flatshare life. We have a very small kitchen.

        is courted and pursued.
