From the depths of my sketchbook: a drawing I produced while in SE Portland last month.

Friday Sketchpost: Self-portrait, 2019

A self-portrait from this spring that was hanging out in my sketchbook!

***
Things are both busy and not busy over at Clairikine HQ. I have just returned to Berlin after a week in Lyon (where I did see Groupama Stadium on an off day and otherwise cheered teams on in bars), and after a very intense season between January and May I have been switching gears for the summer, keeping commitments to a minimum, writing, and catching up on TV.

Once summer starts winding down, though, I am happy to announce that I'll be in Portland for xoxo this September! My travel is pretty much paid for at this point, but I've reopened both my Traveling Tip Jar commissions and my Bigcartel store to help offset some of the costs.
My store in particular hosts my brand-new zine The Person You've Never Met alongside How ARE You??!, both of which collect my illustrations from Inktober 2017 and 2018! There are also sets of Glücklich in Berlin stickers and my collected Master of Survival zines.

And as always, if you'd like to simply support my comics without purchasing anything, you can make a monthly donation at Patreon!

Monday Sketchpost: CSSconf EU / JSConf EU 2018 Sketchnotes

As I mentioned in my previous post, last June I had the opportunity to attend CSSConf EU and JSConf EU in Berlin! Here are all the sketchnotes I drew during three days of talks. These conferences were incredible and I recommend them very highly!

Friday Sketchpost: Creative Mornings Berlin with Susanne Koelbl, 8.4.16

This morning I attended a most excellent talk given by Spiegel foreign correspondent Susanne Koelbl at this month's Creative Mornings Berlin on the topic of "Risk".

Have a great weekend!

Friday Sketchpost: La Cordée (Liberté), Lyon

As depicted in this week's comic, I had the good fortune of visiting a branch of La Cordée, Lyon's network of coworking spaces. If I'd had time, I would have stayed and drawn the place for hours. Here is what I had time for. If you are a freelancer or remote worker traveling through Lyon (or Paris, or Annecy, or even... Villefranche and Morez??), I highly recommend stopping by.

Friday Sketchpost: Kamingespräch at ESCP Europe

Last week I attended a "Kamingespräch" (or "fireside chat"*) organized by the ESCP Europe business school in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The ESCP and their participants let me draw their faces and take a couple notes during the event, which I present to you below. Happy Friday!
* Not involving Nixon.

Friday Sketchpost: re:publica 14, Day 2

Long time, no sketch dump! In keeping with this week's comic, here are some of the sketches I did during my first day at Berlin's re:publica in May (which was Day 2 of the conference). Few places are as great for drawing from life as an event full of people and speakers. Enjoy! (I apologize for not translating the German due to time constraints.)

Sunday Sketchpost: Woods

A little something I found in my sketchbook over the weekend and that I really, really like.

Friday Sketchpost: Joe Czarnecki presents The Icarus Project

Last weekend was Berlin-dwelling guitarist Joe Czarnecki's first concert in two years. I've been a fan of his work since moving here and was super-happy to hear new music and old classics, some of them revisited.

Of course, if you want to practice drawing hands, why not use a tapping guitarist's hands for reference? It's not like they move or anything.

Joe's album Watch Now is one of my favorite records, right up there on my list of indispensable instrumental guitar music along with Kaki King and Kelli Rudick. Check it out!

Weekend Warmup: Well you couldn't get much closer

Pencilled my way through the weekend on a commissioned one-pager due at the end of the month. Warmed up by drawing Noémie, Anaé and a random guy. Noémie is a joy for me because she gives me license to draw a grumpy character, which I always default to out of laziness.

Friday Festivities: Bridal Mix + Doodles

I was invited to Eni and Anselm's smashing good wedding in Berlin-Tegel at the beginning of September. As is my wont, I made them a small mix and illustrated the cover. They are both musicians and in fact sang during their own wedding ceremony, which is just a general proof of awesomeness (and something I'd like to one-up someday, being me).

Some doodles from the last couple weeks, including a couple people who happened to walk by my table at Zinefest.

Also, tiny update at the Noémie blog for the Franco-Germanically inclined! You can also like the project on Facebook and follow it on Twitter [FR/DE].

See you Tuesday!

Random Friday Sketchdump: The Return!

I know I've been  inactive on here as of late, but I assure you - I have been anything but idle these past few weeks! As life often has it, in contrast to the relatively dead summer of 2013  I've been working on several projects that came up since returning from vacation in August and it's currently very exciting times with a forecast of prolonged excitement. More to come on this here blog as details unfold!

With that said, it's at long last time for another sketchdump. Have some drawings of foxes, hands, backs of heads, birds and random individuals.

I've also begun reading The Less Then Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal and gotten completely hooked.

Weekend Warmup: Dr. Torres

Two drawing habits I can highly recommend: doing warm-up drawings before you do anything else, and drawing while watching Grey's Anatomy (or some other form of televised entertainment that you find both engaging and of high quality). It follows, therefore, that I drew this sketch of Callie "BAMF" Torres today.

Sondern auf Wiedersehen

My good friend Alex left Berlin this week for new opportunities in Chicago. He got this as a parting gift and general thanks for being awesome. I am rarely sappy on the internet, but I will miss him. A lot. Who's going to discuss Matt Smith with me now?

(As an aside, that'll teach me to watch Sherlock with relative strangers.)
